Etude [33] – LOGOS

An Etude composed with my DOS-Lab for five instruments of the robot-orchestra of Foundation LOGOS in Gent: AutoSax [robot-saxophone], Bomi [Robot-organ with closed woodpipes], So and Heli [robot-tuba’s], Player-piano.

The interesting thing about working with automata is the confrontation between absolute consistency and intuitive interventions. What has intrigued me from the very beginning of my composing activities is how far this confrontation can be pushed to the extreme. An intuitive intervention can also be automated. This was the primary reason for developing my DOS-Lab. In Etude[33] for LOGOS, the automation process occurs on two levels: the input (the composition) and the output (its performance).
